Sci Fi Channel Going Drama Light?

If you've been following this blog for any length of time you're probably well aware that this geekette is seriously devoted to science fiction books, film, and television. the SciFi Channel is the most often watched on my television with the possible exception of a few choice news network and perhaps G4.

That being said, I'm beginning to feel the first twinges of apprehension about the direction that this favorite of channels seems to be taking for future seasons. Favorite shows have been canceled and not replaced in the past and current favorites such as Stargate Atlantis - The Complete Fourth Season
and Battlestar Galactica - Season 4.0
will not continue beyond this season.

While they are removing these excellent dramas from the air they are bringing new reality TV type shows in by the droves. I understand that there are many people who love reality TV and that this is a HUGE market. My problem is that the SciFi Channel seems to be leaving their loyal and faithful market of years behind in search of the bright shiny shows that are designed to bring in 'new blood' that may not really be genre specific.

Granted, the long awaited prequel to Battlestar Galactica (2003 Miniseries)
, Caprica is in the works and may be a decent replacement for this favorite in my family and Stargate Universe is on the horizon. It just seems so far away for those of us who fear growing fat on nothing other than reality shows and reruns in the meantime. Am I the only one lamenting what seems to be the loss of the last true sci-fi stronghold on television?

What Geeky Gifts are a Must for Your Christmas List?

I have a family of geeks. There's a mommy geekette (the author of this brilliant little gazette), a daddy geek, and three little geeks (teen, tween, and toddler) who all love geeky gifts this time of year. The current status of the economy however has us seriously watching our geek pennies in search of gifts that are as fun as they are functional.

One such gift that the tween geek in the family my find beneath the geek tree (and what a tree it will be) is one of these nifty Lego Watches. What kid can resist the call of Legos and this particular geek kid happens to be the time Nazi in our family. In other words, this is a gift that he can truly appreciate. His big gift this holiday season though is below. It's time he moved up from the training bicycle to something a little more rough and tumble.

The other geek children each present unique challenges of their own. The teen, of course, wants everything that costs a few robotic arms and legs in the process. She's pretty much out of luck on the high end gifts this holiday season. Hopefully we will find a few little surprises that she neither expects or will shun as somehow inferior to her absolute geek superiority (yes, we say things like this to her face too). She does enjoy studying about Japanese culture and language. She is picking up the language quite nicely. We're thinking of something like this lamp to encourage her pursuit of knowledge about this fascinating culture and language.

The little geekette in training is the easiest to please and to shop for. Unfortunately, she's also the most fun (because she's so easy to please--she likes everything). We want to get her something that will provide hours of enjoyment but also work as an aid to learning. Our choice was a learning toy perfect for any little princess. More importantly, in the right color scheme for our little princess.

When we make one special gift the cornerstone of our Holiday giving and supplement with other gifts that are hand made or low in cost but high in value and you can still have an excellent Christmas suitable for the geek in all of us without creating a budgetary nightmare.

Battlestar Galactica PC Mod

As a fan of modding PCs and the television show Battlestar Galactica (say it isn't true that this is the final season), I couldn't let this amazing PC mod go by without a serious Geekette-Gazette nod. Being the SciFi geek that I am, I, of course, have a subscription to several of the little email newsletters that the SciFi channel sends out each week. One of those newsletters is for DVICE and in this week's installment you will find this lovely little PC modification.

Even if you aren't a fan of the television series you should be able to send a serious nod to the creative mind it took to come up with the idea of this particular PC mod. I'm impressed by the actual implementation. At any rate, I'm lacking a caffeine infusion and you are probably getting ready for a busy day ahead. Why I LOVE Working at Home! I've Been Tagged

I really try not to get too personal on this blog. Probably an excellent plan since this blog is so badly neglected. However, some who read this probably know I'm a work at home mom. I work from home as a freelance writer and have been doing so for about three years now. Kelly McCausey at Wahm2.0 has issued a challenge for which I have been volunteered thanks to my good friend Dana at Momphabet Soup. It really is all good though. At least this is a challenge I can sink my teeth into.

So why do I LOVE working at home? Let me count the ways (okay I couldn't help but indulge in a moment of corny behavior).

1) I LOVE the fact that my commute is 30 seconds.
2) I LOVE the fact that I don't have to "dress" for success in corporate attire.
3) I LOVE the fact that I do not have to make the choice between contributing to the household expenses and leaving my child in daycare.
4) I absolutely adore the fact that I don't have to beg a boss for permission to leave when my children need me, are sick, or have something special going on at school.
5) I LOVE the fact that I get to pick the decor of my office.
6) I LOVE that I am not bound by four walls or eight hours in order to get the job done.
7) I LOVE the fact that unless I'm in a particularly masochistic mood I never need to wear pantyhose again!
8) But the most important thing I love about working at home is that I am surrounded each and every day by my favorite people in the world rather than an office of strangers.

Of course, there is no substitute for the fact that the latest and greatest office gadgets and gizmos are now tax deductible.

Geeky Toys for any Office Decor...Also Great for the Kiddos

I'll be the first to admit I'm a total geek. As such, Legos and these sorts of building toys have always fascinated me. I can spend hours contemplating, designing, and crafting new creations only to spend seconds destroying them and beginning the process over again. Yes I promise I did make it out of primary school. My point is, building toys are a LOT of fun...even for us big kids.

Now Nikki over at Mommy Know How is holding a contest. I believe she thinks we'll be giving these goodies to the kiddos (and if that's your style...great) but if you have an even bigger geek in your life it might make a great cubicle toy for those stressful days at the office. In my office (which is in my home) any decoration actually becomes child's play eventually so it really isn't all that selfish. This particular contest is for a Rescue Set Construction Kit by K'NEX. After that you might want to remember that Sci Fi Fridays are back on Sci Fi with a vengeance. This is the final season of Battlestar Galactica and is off to a great start and Dr. Who has a new companion. The new show in the lineup is a spinoff of Dr. Who, The Adventures of Sarah Jane. That should have your weekend off to a fantastic Start.

Star Wars on Spike

It may be television for men but occasionally this network shows a winner. This weekend they have been showing Episodes I-III of the Star Wars Saga. Next weekend they will follow up with episodes IV-VI (those that many of us grew up with). I've been a fan of Star Wars for most of my life so this is definitely my kind of weekend. I have my microwave popcorn, I've stocked up on Diet Dr. Pepper, and I'm ready for some serious space action in a galaxy far, far away.

Whether you are rewarding yourself after an extra long workweek with a much needed blast from the past or experiencing these greats for the very first time (I won't ask what rock you've been living under for the past three decades if this is the case but it IS a tempting question) watching Star Wars from beginning to end is a great way to spend the weekend.

Just remember even if you missed most of the episodes this weekend (there's still tonight to catch Episode III but hurry) there's always next weekend for the thrill of Star Wars.

While it isn't my typical type of music by any means I can certainly appreciate the mentality behind it. Whether rap music is your first choice (or not even on the typical radar for you) this is worth checking out. If you are a hardcore geek, chances are that you will really get Nerdcore Rising (at least a little bit) too.

Han Solo Desk

I am quite certain that I'm not alone in my love/lust relationship with Han Solo. The fact that I've had a crush on him for most of my life should have little impact on the fact that this desk is an exceptionally cool conversation piece--especially for those among us who are fans of the Star Wars Saga.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Welcome to the world my husband lives in every day. Regardless, this amazing desk can be found by clicking on this little link here. What it is, is a glass desktop placed over a replica of Han Solo frozen in carbonite from the Empire Strikes Back (aka Episode V). Stargate Atlantis Finale Tonight

Fans of Stargate Atlantis will be sad to discover that tonight is the season finale. It seems to have ended all too soon. We know from our sources at GateWorld that Season 5 will bring a few big changes and we hope that we will see old favorites again here and there from both the SGA and SG1 series in the coming episodes. Those that missed the episodes this season with Teal'c and Dr. Becket should definitely pay a visit to Amazon Unbox and download the videos as the are well worth watching.

Fans of Stargate SG1 should also be aware that The Ark of Truth will be released to DVD on March 11th so save your pennies. I've had a bit of a sneak peek and will be the first to tell you that it is everything you would expect of a Stargate movie and does "indeed" provide some closure to the Ori story line. If only I could get a little quality time with Dr. Daniel Jackson .

Must See TV Stargate Atlantis

Carson fans rejoice. I don't know if you caught last week's episode of Stargate Atlantis but our favorite doctor (no offense to the new doctor intended) has returned from the dead...or so it seems. I'm not sure what the future holds for the good doctor but do know that I'm on pins and needles waiting for this week's episode to find out the story of what happened. It was good to hear his voice again and see him with the SGA crew.

Yes, I know most of my geekiness lately has been reserved for sci fi television and movies. I've had little time to gush over the latest and greatest gadget or gizmo. I promise to come back more often and bring updates on some innovative and just plain interesting gadgets in the near future. I simply thought this story was very geek-worthy especially for all of us girls that are suckers for the nice guys.

Summing it up with YUMMMM!!!

Being the self-respecting geek that I am, I have always had such a weakness for the bad boys. I also have a deep and abiding love for comic book characters (and villains) turned movie magnets. The latest addition to the comic book villain turned movie star to hit my radar is Heath Ledger as the Joker in the upcoming version of Batman.

While he makes for quite a spectacle of dis-respectability, Heath Ledger looks to turn in a stellar performance as a somewhat psychotic Joker. Sorry Jack, there's something about Heath's voice that simply sends shivers down my spine. It doesn't matter how much makeup they attempt to hide his stunning face, there is little they can do to stop the appeal of his voice. Which actually makes him very attractive as The Joker.

Of course you shouldn't take my word for it. See for yourself. This movie is definitely on my list of must see movies for 2008. I can hardly stand the wait. At least after watching this trailer, I'm hoping that more people will be as eager as I am for the finished product.

Knitting with the Force

I'm not sure if there are any knitters in the midst here BUT if you are a geek who also happens to enjoy stitching away during your sci-fi television time you might want to take a look at this intriguing knitting pattern for a hat I found during my travels around the World Wide Web. It is an R2D2 Beanie and anyone that knows and loves the Star Wars series knows all too well who (or more precisely, what) R2D2 is. In fact, many of us find that this lovable droid is a favorite character throughout the entire Star Wars series.

I must admit that the geek in me is screaming "right on!" about this pattern. The novice knitter in me is shuddering a bit as this is decidedly outside of my knitting comfort zone. That being said, this is a pattern that I am determined to attempt in the near future. Perhaps I'll have it mastered and it can grace a stocking by Christmas 2008. If not, there is always 2009 to wait for perfection there. I would love to hear from any geekettes in the audience that have attempted or plan to attempt this awesome little knitting project. Photos, encouragement, and challenges are also greatly appreciated...and may the powers of the light side of the force guide your needles for the warmth of heads, big and small everywhere. Really Cool Site for Computer Geeks

Occasionally I run across a site that is too incredibly cool not to share. I know that there is no requirement for geekhood. I also know that many bona fide geeks enjoy a concept known as modifying computer cases. This site goes a little beyond a typical box mod and actually shows how they managed to modify the monitor and the keyboard in order to accomodate a truly old fashioned computing experience.

This website isn't about modifying computers per se, but typically modifications that can done to all manner of items. For the geek who likes playing with all kinds of cool toys this is simply too much to pass up. Even in the process of writing this I find myself consistently clicking back to the website and getting lost among all the cool and entertaining things that are laid out for all to see and try.

Here it is folks. The Steampunk Workshop. I hope you all enjoy it is much as I have and that you will not get so completely lost among all the neat and interesting things to do that you forget to find your way back.

Sad Day for Battlestar Galactica Fans

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time I am sure that it is fairly obvious how much I enjoy the new Battlestar Galactica series that has been showing on the Sci Fi Network. The story is engaging and they have managed to take icons from my childhood and make them even more frightening.

It is with great sadness that I relay the news that the upcoming season of Battlestar will be the shows final season. This was not the result of the poor ratings the show has experienced (in spite of critical acclaim) or any reason other than the producers of the show feel the story will be best played out in four seasons.

There will also be an exceptionally long break when compared to season's past before we will see the ending of this wonderful story. With this in mind, be sure to keep checking for updates here as I am sure to share any news that comes way becuase I enjoy the show so very much.

We are also in the final days of Stargate SG1's long and successful television tenure as well. For those of you who do not know, this is SG1's final season on Sci Fi and it will be ending soon. There are movies that will provide a little closure for fans who were somewhat shocked and dismayed by the decision of the Sci Fi channel to cancel this long time fan favorite. Stargate Atlantis will continue airing on Sci Fi despite the departure of SG1.

Have a great weekend all, I have plans to devote some serious energy and effort into cleaning my house. It looks like a bad planetary disaster film has been shot in my living room. TTFN!

Why Geek?

There was a time when being called a geek was meant to be an insult. The same may hold true for today but there are a few very obvious facts that should take a little bit of the bite out of being called a geek.

First of all Bill Gates is a geek. It's a fact. He was a geek in his younger days and neither his technological wizardry or his not quite up to par social skills have changed much over the last couple of decades. What has changed for Bill Gates however is the status of his net worth. It just keeps growing and growing. Peronally, I wouldn't mind the comparison. He is one geek that has done quite well for himself.

When you think about it, however, there are a great deal of men and women in powerful positions that may have exceptional scientific skills while not scoring as high off the charts when it comes to those pesky little things known as socialization skills.

While I would love it if my claim to geek famedom was my incredible abilities when it comes to computer coding (that we'll leave to the love of my life) or my unsurpassed talents when it comes to MMORPGs I can't. Truth be told I have absolutely no talent when it comes to coding and while I greatly enjoy MMORPGs I can't claim to be really great at them either.

Ironically enough, it's probably these things that make me most likely to be called a geek. I don't even fit the geek stereotype. I have a few social skills, I'm not all that scientifically inclined, yet I remain fascinated and drawn to all the things that are possible, even those that are improbable. I love science fiction, computer games, and useless bits of trivia. Does it really matter that I'm not exceptionally skilled at any of them?

History Channel Features the Star Wars Legacy

Well sort of. On Memorial Day the History Channel will be airing a feature show by the title of Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed. This is rather personal for me and I will definitely be among the millions who will either tune in or Tivo this particular television special. While many took round about paths on their journey to divine geekiness, mine started right about 30 years ago (egads! I can't believe I'm confessing that...29, 29!) when I first discovered the possibility of a galaxy far, far away.

To my young little eyes this was a world that it was as possible as the world I was standing in and as real. I saw the stars every night as I was tucked into bed and the very thought that there could be a galactic war waging in those skies where light and dark were battling for their very existence was beyond exciting. I was hooked from the first scene until the very end of the movie as the princess rewarded the bravery of my heroes and R2D2 once again stood beside C3PO.

Another little detail you may want to tuck away is that this also marks the 30 year anniversary of the Star Wars saga. The Star Wars series has spanned generations and is one thing from my childhood that my children have been able to be as excited about as me. There are so very few things that truly belong to both our generations. I'm thrilled that this is one of those things that we've all managed to share and love together.

At any rate, though it seems the story has been told in full, the legacy of Star Wars continues to impact our world today. I hope many of you will join me in watching this 2 hour special on Monday night as our deep and abiding love for all things Star Wars and the impact that this series has had on generations is explored.

Gamers Behold (live action role playing gamers that is)

In moments of utter geekiness on my part, I fondly recall those days when we had role playing game parties that would last long into the night and sometimes the next morning. Some nights there was something happening every minute while others there were long breaks in between with our parties searching for new trouble under rocks and in the bushes.

If you have never managed to participate in a live action role playing game then you almost have no right to call yourself a true geek. It's like never having watched Monty Python or not owning a computer. I have a new addiction though known in some circles as YouTube. It is through YouTube that I took this little stroll down memory lane today. Only a true live action role playing gamer could appreciate this video to its fullest effect but it's too irresistable not to share.

And I'm sure that those of you who have played for any length of time or played with new groups during your 'gaming careers' have related to this at one point in time or another.

So much for this stroll down memory lane. It looks like I'm going to have to check out what new live action role playing games are popular these days. TTFN!

Let Other Drivers Know How You Really Feel

I have to say that I try to remain civil on lifes highways and biways. The process isn't always as seemless as I would like it to be and my children have herd me utter an unkind term or two towards my fellow man (and possibly their lineage) along the road we know as life. The good news most of the time is that the person in the other vehicle is generally oblivious to my ranting and raving and going on about their lives as though no not so kind thoughts are being sent in their directions.

It should come as no shock to many of you that I spend a good deal of my rather limited surfing time checking out the many neat gadgets and gizmos at Think Geek whenever I have the opportunity. This nifty little gadget known as the Driving LED Emoticon has definitely captured my attention as well as my imagination. I'm already wondering how quickly I can hack into it and what other phrases I might be able to teach it to say along the way.

At any rate, as is it this nifty little gadget will smile as passersby, frown, tell them "thanks" or to "back off" and call them an "idiot" all at the press of a button. Just be careful that you aren't the one making the mistakes. You never know who else may have one of these nifty little gizmos. Regardless, it is quite likely to bring a smile to someone's day as you go about your daily drive with a smiling face peering back at the traffic behind you.

Bug The Movie for the Die Hard Sci Fi Fan

Though I highly suspect that Bug will not make my personal top 10 must see movie list for the summer, I have no doubt that many hard core sci fi and horror fans will find this movie quite appealing. My imagination is far too active to endure the aftermath of a movie such as Bug and I can always blame the lack of a decent baby sitter for my absolute absense from this movie. I found the trailer alone set my heart racing, I would probably be in for a full fledged heart attack if I were to sit through the entire movie version of Bug. Of course Slither and Snakes on a Plane didn't make my must see movies list either. If this is the type of movie that appeals to you, then you must check out the trailer.

Bug the movie will be in theatres just in time for drive in season if you are fortunate enough to live in an area with drive in theatres you might want to consider this a movie to watch beneath the stars. Somehow the thought of misquitoes nibbling seems as though it would serve to enhance the suspense and drama of this particular movie.

The cast of Bug is quite promising with Ashley Judd, Harry Connick Jr., and Michael Shannon. While this movie is decidedly not my cup of tea I thought it would be remiss not to mention it to all the other fabulous geeks and geekettes out there that might enjoy a movie such as this. Surprisingly enough this movie, despite the outstanding cast, is not getting the buzz that many other movies of this genre seems to have generated. Save Jericho

In an act of supreme geekiness, I must participate in the campaign to save Jericho. There are so very few programs on network television that are original any more. If there is any doubt, how many hospital dramas, law and orders, and csi's are there anymore?

Jericho was an original thought that was well executed if not poorly planned. The first half of the season was a bang so to speak while the second half was pitted against the ever so popular American Idol, which when it comes to rating (though not necessarily quality television) is the clear dominator. My point however, is that no show in this time slot is going to perform well against American Idol. Nevermind that the 3 month 'hiatus' that was given to Jericho did much to cool the anticipation for the second half of the season.

While I love Jericho as many other Americans did, three months is a long time for the glow to wear off and people to forget their television viewing loyalties. Jericho is a show that does get to the heart of a geeky girl to some degree, though I do experience strange palpatations at the thought of life without an IPod, Palm Pilot, Tivo, or Internet access at my fingertips. The truth is that there were geeks long before the technological advances of the last few decades (keep in mind that geeks are by and large responsible for these advances) and in all likelihood, the geeks are some of the ones that will help us survive if a scenario such as this should ever present itself.

When it comes to Jericho however, I believe I am more dismayed by how things ended. What kind of network ends a series with a cliffhanger like that??? To me this reeks of CBS truly not caring about its veiwers and caring more about the bottom line. So much for the apple pie image guys. There is only one other show I currently watch on this network I guess I should be grateful that they haven't decided to axe NCIS as well.

How Does a Girl Get Joost?

Seriously, I have searched the web over and am not feeling the love of a Joost invite. So, here it is, I will beg.

Please oh Please, any true geeks that come across my prose, support the cause of a girl looking to get her geek on and try out this latest bastion of entertainment at the click of a button!

Did that work? Only time will tell. I will however, be glad to send props to the proper person if I am graced with one of these much coveted invites.

For those of you reading this and wondering what the heck I'm talking about, though I'm inclined to believe I'm the last geek to this particular dance party--Joost is an interactive way to enjoy television. While it may not have all the television shows from around the worl it has a fairly vast selection of programming, extras, and more importantly the ability to watch your favorite shows (providing of course they are included at this point in time) on your timeline rather than that of the networks. I have several shows that I love to watch but do not always mesh with my hectic schedule. Joost would fix that problem and if I missed part of my favorite show I can just watch it over again to get the entire story unlike regular television.

For anyone that is a television junkie, this is definitely the wave of the future. There are plans for Joost to go public, which means that everyone will get the chance to join. I'm just impatient (dancing around on tippy toes still begging for invites)! So, if someone out there manages to wrangle an invite after reading this, please remember your source of information and send one my way?

Kitchen Gadgets

While I qualify as a geek on many levels I most closely associate with the title of gadget geek. I love nifty little gadgets, tools, and toys and will admit shamelessly to buying things in the past just to see how it works.

Unfortunately as this point in time technology seems to be outpacing my ability to make purchases. There are a few gadgets that are absolute musts to have in any respectable kitchen. I'll skip some of the more mundane pieces of technilogical marvels that keep our kitchens in good working order and get to my absolute must have kitchen gadget: an electric cheese grater.

I know that many of you are laughing right now but I have this thing about purchasing pre shredded cheese at the store, it just doesn't taste the same as freshly grated cheese and I am not masochistic enough to try and grate enough cheese for this cheese loving family. We have a genuine love of cheese from taco toppings, to quesadillas fillings, parmesean for our pastas, to toppings for our pizzas and countless other reasons to have shredded cheese in between we find ourselves in need of grated cheese far more often than we should probably care to admit.

So off I went in search of a great electric cheese grater in order to fill my kitchen gadget obsession and save my hands from many painful nights of cheese grating. Geek or not, the Deni Giovanna Italy Cordless Cheese Grater is the perfect model for my gadget geek kitchen needs. Really this nifty little grater has all the things I love in a gadget for my kitchen and none of the things I hate. First of all, it's easy on the hands. Second, it is diswhasher safe, and third (for me at any rate) it will grate not only the hard cheeses that devices of this nature are typically suited to do but also the softer cheeses that tend to bog down lesser graters. You should also find that this cheese grater is by no means limited to cheese. You can also grate nuts, chocolate, and other items as well. Weather Ready?

It is getting to be that time of year once again. There is a hint of spring in the air as Old Man Winter holds on with the very last of his energy trying to deny the sun, song, and warmth that springs brings when finally sprung. You can feel that little hint of warmth in the breeze and are probably beginning to notice that there are familiar birds singing. The very birds whose songs have been forgotten in past months.

Unfortunately along with the warmth of spring comes the volatility of rapidly changing weather patterns and not so predictable storms along the way. You guessed it, tornado season is upon those in the midwest to be followed rather quickly by hurricane season in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. In other words, tornado season is rapidly approaching and you need to be prepared. It is getting to be the time of year when you need to take stock of the condition in your storm cellar, check the batteries in the flashlight, prepare your emergency provisions, and check to make sure that you have an adequate weather radio to serve as your warning beacon when Mother Nature isn't behaving as we feel she should.

It would seem that a geek test is the supreme display of geekiness though I found that many activities on this particular question were just plain ordinary fun activities. Cough cough, of course there were some that were very far out there. As far as geek tests go I really like the format of this particular test. The questions covered a wide variety of topics and I couldn't help but chuckle along the way. While I tested as a well qualified geek I have no doubt that my dear husband would have scored much higher on the geek scale than the meager score I eeked out.

At any rate, it's Sunday, there isn't a ton of new and fascinating information available for the kingdom of geekdom so taking a quick gander at the geek test can be a great way to pass some serious time (especially if you aren't into the disaster movies on Sci Fi today). The geek test to which I am referring can be found here and you should plan a good 10 to15 minutes of time as there are quite a few determining factors.

In other geek news tonight is the night to watch Sci Fi. Though Sci Fi Fridays are no more you can catch Dresden Files (a show that is growing on me) and Battlestar Galactica tonight. For those of you following the series Baltar's trial begins tonight, I think we're in for a couple of exciting shows as the series' third season winds down.

Gaming Good for Eyesight?

It would seem that this is the case when it comes to certain rather popular video games that are currently dominating the gaming market. Personally, I'll take this over eating my carrots to improve eyesight any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's really something to think about however when you consider that most of my childhood I heard how video games and constant exposure to visual stimulation was going to ruin my eyesight...wonder what else mom lied about?

Pi Day!

No I haven't fallen off my spelling rocker. However, I would not be a proper geek if I failed to mention that today is Pi Day not Pie day (though that would be yummy right about now). It makes perfect sense when you consider what day it is...3-14. Of course it's all relative. Today also happens to be Albert Einstein's birtday.

I'm fairly certain that this wasn't a mere coincidence but when you think about it, how odd is that? It's a good day for all of us geeks around the world to have something to come together and celebrate other than the latest greatest video game being released (not that that isn't a perfectly acceptable reason to get together for an awesome LAN party). The truth of the matter is that you could quite possibly turn your Pi celebration into a giant LAN party just be sure to serve Pi themed food.

If you can't find yourself getting all that excited over Pi don't worry, it isn't an absolute requirement for pure geekiness. I'm sure we'll find plenty to discuss later.

Battlestar Galactica

I know I've touched on this topic before. This happens to have been my absolute favorite television show until a little more than a week ago. Despite my disappointments, it still remains high on my list. I'm not sure if this says more for my loyalty to science fiction or remains a testament to the poor selection of television shows on the air at the moment. I was devestated at the decision to gack Starbuck. I know there is a great deal of specualation over what will happen to Starbuck's character and even whether or not she is really dead after all. Some people believe that is Ron Moore's idea of the ultimate joke to play on fans.

What I do have to say is this. I was a huge skeptic when I heard that they were remaking Battlestar Galactica for the mini series though part of me was very excited. In an absolute display of sheer geekiness, this was one of my favorite childhood shows and I was afraid the mini series would somehow diminish that but felt compelled to watch because it was a childhood favorite.

This being said I sat in front of my television in sheer and utter shock when I realized that Starbuck in this mini series was female. I automatically hated her because she was female. It took a while for her character to grow on me. Seriously, then I began to love her as the kick ass female that all of us geeky girls wish we could be. She said what she thoght, she drank like a fish (one drink and I'm under the table snoring), and she smoked cigars. She could throw punches with the best of 'em and wasn't afraid to take a few punches of her own. For this reason the new Battlestar Galactica--by the end of the mini series had taken up a new place in my heart just as the new Starbuck had.

I was so excited when I heard that this mini series that had captured my attention and imagination had been turned into a television series that would bear the Battlestar Galactica name. Even more amazing was that the characters we knew and loved (and those we loved to hate) from the mini series would be returning to the show. The series itself has been a little darker and much more character driven than the series of old. I loved the human cylon element and the vulnerability of the characters on the show both human and cylon.

So WHY? WHY? WHY? did he go and kill off Starbuck? Yes I know, many of you have probably not made it this far in my post, but this is my most public way to express myself here and amazingly enough, Mr. Moore surfs the web so he might somehow find this little blog post and comment. He is certainly invited to explain should he deem my little corner on the web worthy. I am one enquiring mind that would truly like to know the why on this.

Oh and one more thing Mr. Moore, should you happen to read this, I love the turn that Lee has taken in the last episode. I can't wait to see the next two episodes and sincerely hope that you will be bringing Starbuck back in some form as she added so much to the show that was so beloved from my childhood.

The Geek Way to Tone Muscles

I know that many of you may find this difficult to believe but sitting behind a computer screen day in and out is hard on your thighs, waistline, hips, and derriere. I know many of you out there are saying 'surely she jests' but it is true. The number of hours I spend writing each day is the number of hours that I am no longer out and about. Until the day when they invent a program that can simply type out my thoughts while I wander around the room I'll have to suffer through this or find a different profession.

I have a sneaky suspcision that I am not the only person in the world who has a job that literally chains them to a desk on a daily basis. For those of you out there like myself there is hope. At least I hope there is hope. There is a bit of the skeptic in me as nothing could really be this easy but wow, what if it really were this easy? To save you the suspense, I am talking about a new gadget (we all know how much I love my gadgets) that is supposed to literally work out your muscles for you. While I would be interested in this particular product for the massage feature alone, I must admist the muscle toning implications are intriguing to someone like myself.

Perhaps it's the same curiosity that got the proverbial cat killed, however, I am really considering adding this nifty device to my personal wish list. It is called the HealthCare Ston-O-Max Turbo Body Toner and the implications of this product are simply amazing if it lives up to its promise.

I have not however gone off the deep end and completely realize that if something sounds too good to be true it probably is. In the meantime a girl can dream about cutting out the workout portion of each day and night by toning her muscles as she goes about the usual tasks of writing away or preparing meals for the family. Even during outside play time I can be getting a workout for my muscles at the price of a one time investment. Yes I know, you all think I've finally gone completely off the deep end. This may be the case but desperate times call for desperate measures. Now, if only they would invent a calorie free, fat free chocolate that actually tasted like chocolate--my world would be complete!

I must admit that I am completely intrigued at the thought. I absolutely hate constantly needing to wash my hands because I've thrown something away while preparing dinner. This neat little device is not for the price concious but for the sanity conscious. I love the idea behind this product and wish I had been the one that was bright enough to create it. He or she is probably laughing all the way to the bank that no one else thought of this first. At any rate, the touchless trash can is next on my list of must have gadgets and gizmos for the kitchen.

We are in the midst of a vast and extensive kitchen overhaul at the moment so the touchless trash can will definitely be my gift to myself when all is said and done and I once again have a fully functional kitchen in which to prepare all my glorious meals. If you haven't seen one of these yet you can check it out below and I would love to hear your thoughts on the touchless trash can. In my book it rates up there with the robotic vacuum cleaner as a nifty gadget for girls.

My Top 5 Favorite Sci Fi Movies

Yes, I am truly a geek when it comes to movies. I love movies of all genres but sci fi still happens to be my favorite. While it is quite difficult to narrow it down to 10 I have these in mind for my favorite and please feel free to reply with a few of yours or even a "Why the heck did you leave this one off?" It could be that I simply haven't seen some of the greats in so long that I've merely forgotten about them. I will admist that I'm no connosieur of movies, nor a snob. Some of them are mearly my favorite because they hold fond memories for me from my childhood.

1) Star Wars. This movie is where my love of science fiction began. This is the movie that had me dreaming of touchging the stars and meeting creatures from other galaxies. Add to that the very awesome special effects and in the eyes and heart of a six year old I was forever hooked.

2) E. T. Yet another flashback to my childhood. This is definitely a sentimental favorite but a favorite it remains. I've been very blessed to find that this movie and Star Wars are movies that I've been able to share with my children and we've loved watching them together.

3) Aliens. Not the first one but the second. I know that most people are loyal to the first and I understand that compltely but this is my top 10 list and it was my favorite of the entire series. I didn't see the first movie in the series until after I watched Aliens and I can say little more than this movie scared the bejesus out of me and I always thought I had a fairly hefty constitution for frightening movies. I still remember dumping my popcorn in my lap the first time one of the aliens popped out.

4) The Lost Boys. What kind of true sci fi geek could get away without mentioning a vampire movie somewhere in the mix. When this movie came out the eye candy was incredible and the storyline was actually pretty good in light of the many campy Dracula films that had hit the market. If you must still ask why it made my top 10 need I say more than Keifer Sutherland??

5) The Empire Strikes Back. Yes I know I've already mentioned another Star Wars movie but this one sticks out in its own right as well. Perhaps it was my broken heart that resulted from seeing my beloved Han Solo frozen in carbonite or the fact that it was the first movie I had ever seen that left off without the good guys prevailing. I was young at the time and rather sheltered. But this movie was brave, brazen, and a darn good movie. There aren't many movies in life that we simply must watch everytime it comes on the television but this is definitely one of those for me.

This by no means indicates that there aren't many excellent sci fi movies out there that aren't on my list. Off the cuff I can name the remaining Star Wars Movies, The Matrix, 2001, The Terminator, The Star Trek movies, Independence Day, and The X Men just to name a few. It is difficult determining favorites among so many and I would love to see the favorites of others as well as the reasons why.

The Sadist in Me

Yes, I do have a bit of a sadistic bent, particularly when it comes to love and love that has been lost along the way. With that in mind, I find the "Ex" Knife holder to be a must have gadget for the kitchen of every girl (geek or not) who has loved and lost. This is particularly true if it didn't end all too well. Take a look for yourself though and tell me I'm wrong.

The problem I have with this product is that there are no incantations to make sure the 'ex' in question feels the pain so to speak. Did I mention that I was a sadist? As far as knife holders go, this is an excellent conversation piece to include in your kitchen. I would refrain however from taking it to the office as it may raise a few questions. In fact, I would think a knife holder--particularly a loaded knife holder might raise more than a few questions. It would be fun however to see the look in some of your coworkers eyes though wouldn't it?

Last Chaos

Have I mentioned that I'm such a geek? Seriously, I don't think they make many girls that qualify on the geek scale quite to the extent that I seem to dominate that scale. This being said it is absolutely no wonder that I am seriously addicted to MMORPGs. That would be massively multiplayer online role playing games for the uninitiated. I love these games in all kinds of genres and settings. The problem is that if you are addicted to more than a couple it can grow to become quite an expensive habit to maintain. Enter Last Chaos. This is a free to download and free to play MMORPG for all who might be interested or those that are simply wondering what the fuss is all about. I hope those of you who check it out find as many hours of enjoyment in the land of online gaming as I have.

300 Debuts and Battlestar Galactica Leaves fans Reeling

For my early morning update I have to say that today is the big day: 300 arrives in theaters and while I can't wait to see it, I will have to. It would seem that there are no baby sitters available this weekend and while it does appear to be an awesomely cool movie this is definitley not one that I would put in the books as kid friendly. I have a sneaky suspicion that all the usual sitters have weekend plans to see 300 themselves. Perhaps in a few weeks I will get the opportunity to see for myself this movie I've been raving about for months.

If you haven't been watching Battlestar Galactica on Sci Fi I'm not sure you have the right to call yourself a bona fide geek. However, it is not too late. You can catch up on all this seasons episodes through ITunes and there still remain a few more great episodes coming up. Trust me girls, there is some can't miss eye candy in these episodes, don't for one second think that the guys are the only ones getting a good view with this series.

I know that many of you out there were dismayed at the new series and are boycotting. However, I feel that you are robbing yourself of an excellent series that is very different from the original. This is both good and bad in many ways. But I find the depth of characters in this movie is something that was somewhat lacking in the version of my childhood. I also love the fact that they made Starbuck a female. I will admit that at first I was stunned to say the least but she grew on me. I will go no further without revealing spoilers but if you missed this week's episode "Maelstrom" you need to go and download it right now. Do not pass go. You should also take this opportunity to check out the feature on SciFi.com to make your own Battlestar Video. It is a great way to kill an hour or four and good for a few laughs.

While I am quite certain that I could go on and on about all the great things happening in geekdom across the country and around the world this seems to be a great stoppping point for the night/morning. TTFN!

Making Changes

It is probably more than slightly obvious to anyone that occasionally drops in to read that this little project of mine has been sadly neglected. I plan to change this in coming months by making this a site that will appeal a little to the geek in all of us. I hope to include gaming updates for both computer games and role playing games, information about our favorite Sci Fi television shows and movies, as well as keep you updated on the latest and greatest and girly gadgetry to hit the market. I would like this be a fun place to visit on your weekly stop as well as a font of information to those who lack the time or the inclination to surf the web for piles of information when they can come to one nifty little nook on the net in order to find it. I will be updating more regularly in the future and hope that some of you who visit will become loyal readers and engage in thoughtful conversation. TTFN!

iBaby!

A girl's gotta go to the mall sometimes no matter how hard she is working. It's always great to take a break. So I decided to go strolling around the mall. Never in my adled mind would I have thought that I would find the coolest gotta have gadget in the baby section of Sears. But find one I did. Kolcraft which manufactures many baby items and has a fairly decent reputation for baby products in the moderate price range has partnered with iPod to create the iBaby Reclining Umbrella Stroller. I'm not sure which company I am more impressed with at the moment. iPod has been a genious in creating and marketing their products. Not only do they have proprietary software which makes them indespensible once you own one. They are constantly updating, upgrading, and moving on to bigger, better pods. Kolcraft though has touched on something that I as a parent have often lamented...I can't share my music with my baby if I am wearing headphones and when we are just walking around, I think we occasionally both find ourselves wanting a little more than nature to occupy our minds.

While I think this stroller is a great idea as well as a cool partnership, I believe that Kolcraft could have used a better stroller model in which to introduce this concept. So far the only thing really going for this stroller is the iPod adapter. There is no tray or storage at all on this stroller so it isn't a very practical stroller for daily use. But kudos for the effort. Hopefully this effort will pay off enough that we will soon see other strollers following suit.

Hey girls, I don't know about you but I'm always searching for places to plug things in and power strips don't always cut it. Ever needed extra flexability or found that the strips outlets were too close together to use three prong cords. I have never ending problems with this, especially considering my love for gadgets. Of course, one day I'll build a house with enough plug ins...yeah like that could ever possibly happen. At any rate I found this really neat gadget. Geekette Problemo

I have a problem that I'm hoping some suave geek that is more technically savvy than I can help me solve. It seems that whenever I launch my winamp player it changes the settings on my computer and the screen goes all screwey. Anyone have a brilliant suggestion to save this damsel in MP3 distress? I even have the neatest little Christmas skin, blinking lights and all (I'm starting toget really bummed out about this)...if I don't get my daily dose of Christmas tunes, well the feelings of good will begin to fade. FAST! You have no idea how much of a blow to this girls ego it is to have to ask for help on something that would seem to be so simple. I am also fairly confident that if I had the time to research this to the hilt I could find the source and a solution...however, time is a luxury I don't have at the moment and probably won't until after Christmas at which point I won't need the extra helping of Christmas spirit or the neat Christmas skin with the blinky lights. Know what I mean? At any rate I'm desparately seeking assistance and would be extremely grateful to anyone who can offer advice. Thanks a bunch! TTFN!

My war against static shock

The next item on my wish list is going to be these Amazing Dryer Balls. I am having the worst time of my life this winter dealing with static. I'm completely electrified. I fold a blanket in the dark and can watch the sparks ripple through the fabric. These balls claim to combat static, that was enough to sell me, they also offer a two year money back guarantee...haven't ever found anything like that with dryer sheets. They also claim to reduce drying time, which reduces energy usage, which lowers bills, which means I can buy more toys. It also means I won't have to waste money on dryer sheets and fabric softeners that aren't currently cutting it. I hope this works out as good as I'm expecting it to. If not I really haven't wasted all that much money and I will chalk it up as a learning experience.

At any rate I'm sincerely interested in offering alternatives that aren't quite as shocking as the options I've been utilizing. May your day most certainly be less shocking than mine has. TTFN!

Girls tonight I'm just popping in to wish you all an early goodnight. I'm so unbelievably tired that I don't even think I can manage to look for a new toy. I hope you all have a great night and can do some even better shopping for me. I'm too tired to even consider shoe shopping right now and that is my honest to goodness first love. Mama really wants one of these

My back hurts, it always hurts. Back pain has become an accepted and expected part of my daily life. I will endure the pain, it's part of the process, but it would be oh so nice to have one of these massage chairs to help kneed my tired, aching muscles at the end of each and every day. Well on second thought I had better get two or I would honestly never get to sit down in it. He always hogs the good chairs why on earth would this one be any different? At any rate this chair is on my wish list. It will probably still be on my wish list this time next year but I would love to be pleasantly surprised and find it under my tree sometime in the near future.

Whether or not one finds its way beneath my tree, maybe you can talk your guy into one of these for yourself, or hey, grab a pair. At any rate good sitting if you do get one. TTFN!

Two All Time Favorites On a Return Flight

I've always been a geek. Even as a little girl I was more content to play with the boys. I found that the toys they had were just so much better than Barbie and Cabbage Patch Kids. I never really could see the thrill in them, especially the moms fighting over them. They weren't even very cute if you asked me. Not that I was all that into cute. The point however, is that TWO of my old favorites have made a comeback. Star Wars and Legos. Who could really ask for more? But if you can there are even video games that combine Star Wars and Legos. How cool is that? I know it's not the same without Han Solo but still the story is there and the droids. I'm just stoked, big geek that I am. Have a Merry Christmas and I betcha can't resist and run out and buy one or the other if you don't have them already. Fess up do you have one yet? And if not what are you waiting for? Just because we grew up doesn't mean we never get to play again.

Video IPod

I have to say, I look at this and think that this has I don't want to even beging to consider how much more hardrive space than my first computer did. You know the one I bought back in the dinosaur days when DOS and other such languages were king and Pong was the game of choice for all true geeks. In fact, my Atari was probably more sophisticated than my original computer. To see an Ipod with a 30 gig hard drive and all I can really think is wow. I mean my old computer was a HUGE box, tiny screen, bulky, clumsy (by todays terms), and I thought it was the coolest toy on the planet. By comparison this Ipod kicks my old computers butt. Of course this ain't your granny's Ipod either. The Apple 30 GB iPod with Video Playback Black is so much more than the first Ipod. I'm almost afraid to see what the future is for these devices. I do have to say it's probably the best thing that Apple has produced in quite a while and I am glad to see some genuine competition about. If nothing else, it will hopefully drive prices down, technology forward, and produce many, many new toys for me to discuss with everyone here. TTFN!

A Geekette's Littlest USB Christmas Tree

Okay, fess up. Just how many of you secretly watch Charlie Brown's Christmas special each and every year? I'm a sucker for all the old Christmas movies. I love them all. They are all very special to me for many reasons. One being childhood associations. I always felt a certain kinship and close empathy to Charlie Brown in his Christmas special. Being a geeky kinda girl I had a bit of a hard time fitting in with other girls my age and for a good while the boys either considered me a yucky girl or saw me as a kid sister. So Charlie's Christmas tree, pathetic though it was always struck a chord. I guess that's why I'm so attracted to this little USB Christmas Tree.

Not only is it as cute as a button. It plugs right into your USB drive. If you're like me there's one right on the front of your box that is empty more often than it's full (no matter how many photos sit on the camera waiting to be uploaded to the actual computer). Anywho, it's a way to dress up your desk with festive feelings of good will and all that good stuff. I'm such a sucker for Christmas too can you tell? Well this is my geekette pick for today. TTFN!

McToaster anyone?

I have to say that I love the idea of this one. I'm a big fan of sausage mcmuffins and have spent my share of dinero on them rather than having a quickie breakfast at home simply because I like them. The Back to Basics TEM500 Egg & Muffin 2-Slice Toaster and Egg Poacher will change all that. I can have my mcmuffin at home and the savings over time can add up to an Outback rather than McD's outting.

Anyway, I've seen this in several catalogs and even the local Lowe's. I've gone to great lengths to point it out to my dearly beloved, who occassionally reads this. Let's hope that the message gets through. If not I'll just save my pennies after Christmas. This is one gadget that this geekette must have! TTFN!

My Christmas list

Well the first thing on my Christmas list is a new USB mouse for my computer. Mine has been on the fritz. I have to keep unplugging and replugging it to get it to work, and even then sometimes I receive a message telling me that there is an unrecognizable device plugged into my port...Grrrr....I hate it when my toys are on the blink.

Then I want (just like I'm sitting on Santa's lap eh?) the Civ IV expansion pack. A girl has to have a nice new game to use her nice new mouse on right?

Then I want the PalmOne Tungsten E Handheld. I particularly like this one because it can be used as an MP3 player. I love my music but really and truly am a sucker for audio books. Especially as I'm finding less and less time to read for enjoyment. I can listen while I'm walking to school with my son or waiting in line at the bank and I'm not relegated to carrying multiple devices with me at all times. It's an calendar, address book, mp3 player, portable game system, ebook reader and it takes less space than most of these would take alone.

And the last thing on my Christmas list is someone named Raul wearing impossibly little clothes, with a tan buff body...to ahem, wash the dishes for me. And I quite honestly am not kidding on that one. I hate washing dishes and if I'm going to get the day off I may as well have some great scenery right? TTFN!

Cool New Gadget!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm always running out of juice on my electronic devices at the most inopportune times. It's immensely frustrating and I'm not always in a position to take care of it. My gadget of the day will help prevent this from happening. It's the The Solar Flare Messenger Bag by Eclipse Solar Gear. This neat bag has compartments for a laptop, cell phone, pda, and your papers and pens and such. The coolest thing about this bag though, is that it has a solar charging module that trickle charges your electronic devices on your commute, on your walk, etc. I think this is the coolest thing. It saves and extends battery life and prevents a great deal of frustration. I'm sure I'm not the only one that notoriously forgets to charge her phone until it's dead. Unfortunately I'm not always in my car or near my charger when this occurs. In fact I almost never need my cell phones in these situations. Well, that's my cool new toy for the day! TTFN!

Roomba, the work free vacuum

I'm really torn on my wintertime wish list for a new vacuum cleaner. Part of me wants the new Dyson for pets. But, we have no pets(unless my three children qualify) so that may be a bit of overkill. Barring that, I'm all about the Roomba robo vac. I mean if I can't get the bigger, better, more girth vacuum, why not get one that will do all the work for me. I particularly like the fact that you set it down in the middle of the room and let it do it's thing. It even goes under tables, chairs, beds, and picks up what is in its path. This gadget gets my vote. I'm definitely adding it to his Christmas list this year I don't want appliances for Christmas!

I would like to add that if you have pets, especially pets that shed, the Roomba probably isn't the best choice for you. The dyson is probably the best choice in this situation. I guess all the cleaing I have in front of Christmas morning has me on the lookout for vacuum cleaners. Merry Housekeeping! TTFN!

A Yummy Find just in Time for Christmas

I have walked past people in the malls, you know the kiosks out in the center, holding these many times. But being the always in a hurry busy girl that I am I have never managed to stop and inquire until recently. All I have to say is that if you see someone handling one of these at the mall, stop and talk a minute it is absolutely yummy. It is a head massager that can work on your back as well. It is better than a manicure. Not quite as good as an hour with a massage artist, but really, who has time? Anyway this was far too yummy to keep to myself. Girls I hope you buy one for your guy and one for yourself. One is not enough to share...trust me you will fight over it constsantly. Girls this is a Geekette gotta have!

Is Bigger Always Better?

This is something that has been a mixed bag for guys for quite a while now. Usually they want more power, more bulk, more girth. Bigger, better, faster, more...sounds like a 4 Non Blondes song (if anyone actually remembers who they are). With all the talk of bigger and better things to come electronics have been moving in a different direction. More features, less space. In a world that is so overcrowded, over stimulated, and over indulged; companies are offering new products on the premise that less, is in fact, sometimes more.

My favorite example of this is the television. I remember as a child this huge wooden box that held our tiny television screen. The box was huge, bulky, and cumbersome. The television was always in the same spot no matter how many times mom would rearrange the living room, simply because it was so completely impossible to move. Then there were big screens which had horrible picture quality. The bigger the screen, the less quality there seemed to be not to mention they were still bulky, cumbersome, and difficult to move. Televisions have seen so many incarnations throughout the last 50 years that it seems amazing that the new sleek designs are even distant cousins to the originals. Which is perhaps why I am so completely enamored with the new LCD TV. They are by far the most convenient for the man who loves to watch and wants a bigger screen and the woman, who wants a room that can actually be lived in without being dwarfed or dominated by a huge wooden box. That is my pick for the day. An LCD screen offers great quality, space (I don't know about you girls but in my house it's an issue), and for me is worth every last dime in the peace and quiet. He has the perfect screen size, a good picture, and I have room for something other than a television. Till next time!

Discovery Channel FX6000 Wireless Weather Station with Wind Chill

As not only a gadget geek but a weather buff too, I have to say that this gadget is super cool. I would give it a two thumbs up rating. The Discovery Channel FX6000 Wireless Weather Station with Wind Chill not only gives the outdoor temperature but the wind chill, overall humidity, wind speed and direction, arrow indicators that represent future temperatures for the day, and the moon phases.

I just think this is cool. You don't have to be held hostage in front of the television in order to find out the weather report and what will happen today. You don't even have to call the local weather number or turn on your computer. Just walk to your indicator and get general information about the weather.

Guys will love it because they can tune into reruns of Home Improvement rather than enduring the local news about the newest mall opening. Or if they are so inclined can tune into CNN or MSNBC, or Fox News rather than enduring the local news just for a 3 minute blurb that isn't always the most accurate. And, it costs about what a good pair of shoes would run...hence the excuse to buy a new pair of shoes. But, I digress. The point is that this is a cool gadget that is actually quite useful and even practical. We, as women, can actually understand the importance of knowing what's going on weather wise and our husbands will think they have really cool wives who feed their gadget cravings.

Tom Tom

We've seen the commercials with the guy driving around and asking Sue Sue for directions and being rewarded with a blank stare. How many times have you been lost? Me? I can get lost trying to find my way out of a Cracker Jack box. Armed with that knowledge, of course I am extremely interested in Tom Tom. It seems the perfect gift...hint hint to my dearest loving hunk of a ...well I digress. This gadget has made my list of number one interests for today because of the simple coolness of it. While it is rather pricey, you can get it for your palm, pocket pc, or PDA for a much lower price. If you do a lot of driving, I highly recommend it. Especially if much of your driving is in unfamiliar territory.

Why is this so cool for a guy? Because he will NEVER, EVER, hear..."why don't you just stop and ask for directions?" Again. With Christmas coming up this is something that I would definitely keep in mind for the man on your list. Put this under the tree and he will absolutely forgive you for the pair of shoes you bought yourself while you were out shopping for him. You may even get him to feel a little guilty for getting you a blender to make him smoothies instead of the diamond earrings you've been hinting about since August...then again a girl can dream.

Gadgets and Gizmos A-plenty

I think that as a child I was always a little bit like Arial from the little mermaid. I loved collecting new and unusual things. The more buttons it had the better. None of the other girls understood my fascination. To tell the truth neither did I, but still my love of new and more technologically advanced toys continued and grew. Then along came Tim Taylor...you know the one. "More Power." Perhaps that is what it was. Maybe I'll never know, but my love for new and exciting gizmos and gadgets continues to grow.

The man in my life loves it. He doesn't really have to justify spending the money on it, only not buying two. I don't roll my eyes when he wants to darken the door of Radio Shack, Best Buy, or Frye's, I am right there with him. In fact he sometimes has to drag me out.

My goal is to try to help the average girl who isn't really all that fascinated understand. I mean most men aren't all that into shoes. My guy tried to give me a twelve pair limit...so I put 12 pair where he could see them and hid the others (insert wicked grin here). But it's something akin to that. Gadget weaknesses are akin to todays shoes. And face it girls they can cost about the same. My guy is doubly lucky, he gets my shoe fetish and my gadget droolings.

Anyway I will attempt to point out nifty finds and explain the real coolness of them in girl speak. That way not only will your dear guy be delighted with your acceptance, he will be impressed by your knowledge. TTFN and check back often for new enlightening gizmos galore.
